The Conficker Worm

There’s a lot of hysteria currently surrounding the recent new worm that may come into force on 1st April. ‘Will your PC be hijacked on April 1?’ was the headline in The Sun on 27th March, the truth is no one knows what impact the worm will have. For more information on the potential impact, please look at F-Secure’s Q&A at: http://www.f-secure.com/weblog/archives/00001636.html

So far there are rumours that the worm has infected the House of Commons and hospital computers in Sheffield. The worm has a number of names, and exploits known security flaws. As has been mentioned, no one knows what this worm will do, but to be safe, please follow the advice below.

What should you do?
Before the 1st April, run a scan to check for malware and worm’s on your PC. F-Secure also has a free cleaning tool available through the link above. Run this to check your PC is not at risk.
